Dr.
Elkae Knutsson, having been found guilty on all
forty-two counts of the indictment, was sentenced to
twelve months in the Teledahn prison. Four Bahro
Bailiffs escorted her from the courtroom in shackles as
she screamed, "Oh, God, no!! Not that again!!!
Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!"

Meanwhile, on Elkae's
Relto:
"Hello, is there anyone home?" Veronica
turned the handle and pushed, but something seemed to be
blocking the doorway. She pushed a bit harder and
finally stumbled inside, falling over a huge brown teddy
bear and a skeleton wrapped in a purple robe. "What
the...?" She bent over the skeleton and pulled aside the
robe. The inside label read: Susie's Gift Emporium, shop
here for all your Halloween needs.
Veronica was puzzled over the condition
of the hut. There was a fine layer of dust on the
bookshelves and the clothes and personal items were
scattered about the room. Even the furniture had been
tossed about, the wardrobe tilted on its side, with the
drawers sagging open. What happened here? The state of
the room indicated foul play. She picked up a small book
that was beside the Halloween skeleton and discovered it
was Elkae's Relto book. Why would she leave this
behind?
Searching through the wardrobe carefully
for clues, Veronica was only able to find one item.
"Hmm...this is familiar."
She decided to take it back to the Institute
with her and tell the others what she had found. She
also had Elkae's Relto book in case she needed to
return. Mr. Miller at Fed Ex was to be avoided at all
costs.
"I think we should try to find Thietris
right now and show him the journal," said Speedy as she
finished her pancakes. "Probably a good idea..." said
Grassie. "Wait! There's more! I think it can explain
the mushrooms!" said Dr. Warrell. "I bet there is
plenty, Dr. Warrell, but I have a funny feeling in my
fur that something extraordinary is going to happen..."
said Grassie as he left the eggroom. Speeyd followed,
after she put her dishes away. Dr. Warrell sighed. The
journal was beginning to get interesting, he thought as
he closed it and followed the others.

Veronica linked into the Institute by
the fountain and rushed up the stairs and across the
bridge. She called out to Cordelia just as Speedy,
Grassie and Dr. Warrell approached the Professor's
office. "I've just come from Dr. Elkae's Relto," she
gasped for breath. "Her hut was ransacked and I found
her Relto book on the floor next to a ghastly Halloween
skeleton." Everyone began to talk at once. From
Cordelia, "Dr. Elkae passed away." From Speedy, "Didn't
you see the notice?" From Veroncia, "What notice? No, I
didn't see it and Dr. Elkae was NOT on her Relto." She
gave Cordelia the book. "I thought you should have it,
just in case. I am no expert on the matter, but I think
something is terribly wrong."
Taking a deep
breath she said, "I need to check in with Grizz, he must
be furious at me for being gone all day." With that, she
rushed back down the stairs to the DISCO.
MrD arrived at the tag end of the
conversation between Veronica and Cordelia just before
Veronica linked out. After she had gone, he approached
Cordelia.
Cordelia, even after the latest events,
what if Professor Thietris still isn't wrong? If Dr
Elkae can change from substantial to purple mist and
back once, what if she can do it again? What if there's
a trigger? Is that something for The Institution to
investigate?
On further reflection - what if Dr
Elkae can learn to do it at will? No door would ever be
secure - she could break in or out through a keyhole,
under the door, the crack beneath a hinge... the
possibilities are endless. And you know - no prison
could ever hold her!
Do you think that Dr Elkae
would agree to being Stellaflora's test subject under
laboratory
conditions?
Cordelia thinks long and hard about what
MrD has just said to her.
Whilst it would be
wonderful if Dr Elkae had returned to a substantial
form, she does rather think that being purple myst and
being able to slip under doors and through small gaps
would certainly have its advantages.
"MrD, I
think what you say is right and I am sure that Dr Elkae
would not mind in the least if she were to become one of
Stellaflora's test subjects. Now if only we could find
Stellaflora"

"I demand my daily phone call right
now!!" shouts Elkae as she shakes the prison bars. The
Bahro guards are off on a four-day weekend so her demand
goes unmet.
"Woah! Hold on," Grassie said, silencing
everyone speaking at one. "Veronica, you said there
was a Halloween skeleton?" Grassie asked. "Yes, it
had a tag from some sort of costume shop," Veronica
explained. "Huh... how odd..." commented
Grassie. Dr. Warrell was quiet all of this time,
trying to hold back his blushing and little bit of anger
in him at the moment. "A costume skeleton? Are you
sure, Veronica?" asked Cordelia. "YES! I am sure! I
can read, can't I?" sighed Veronica.

Cordelia, don't we also need to find Dr
Elkae? Is there someone on her wavelength? Didn't
psychic resonance work in an earlier adventure? Of
course, we could all just get a nominated area each and
go and check in person. Professor T could allocate the
areas?
Before Veronica linked away, she thanked
Cordelia for the information. She wasn't overly
concerned about Grizz. Afterall, she herself had been
gone most of the day, they probably had just missed each
other in passing.
"What an incredible day it's
been."
She walked into Professor Thietris's
office and sat across from him, admiring the beautiful
lamp on the desk. He eyed her warily.
"May I
help you?" he asked.
"Sir, I know you do not
think very highly of me, but I have the utmost respect
for you. (a sudden vision of the squirrel from yesterday
flashed in her head, but she squashed the thought
immediately)
"Was there something
else?"
"May I please take these notes that Dr.
Elkae sent you regarding the hopi Indians? I have some
ideas that I'd like to explore."
He was reluctant
at first, but seemed anxious for her to be out of his
office, so in the end he gave her the envelope. Veronica
said, "I appreciate this opportunity
to..."
"Yes-yes, that will be fine. Cordelia?
Could you come in here please?"

Professor T could have sworn he'd just
asked Cordelia to come into into his office. Yet it was
as though his voice was being controlled by ... someone
else. Spooky. Now he looked up and saw a green
mist, and the image of a transparent Stellaflora
flitting across the room. He rubbed his eyes. The image
had gone. Maybe he wasn't getting enough
sleep.
Thietris just looked at her in total
confusion and shook his head.
"Strange, I must be
hearing things" she said and walked out again, almost
bumping into Veronica on her way out the
door.
"Oh, sorry Veronica, I didn't see you
there. I need to ask you just one question. Could you
please explain how you can link from within the
Institution to somewhere else in the Institution - I
thought that linking books only worked to link you to
other ages"
Veronica looked
at Cordelia blankly and started to stutter. When she
could think of no reply she walked swiftly off,
muttering under her breath.
"What a strange
character she is" thought
Cordelia.
